Data Driven Journalism Course 
This free online MOOC covers five modules on data-driven journalism taught by five leading journalists, editors, and journalism professors. The course covers how to begin incorporating data journalism into newsroom culture as well as how to find and clean data, uncovering stories in big data sets, and using visualizations for storytelling.  


MulinBlog Online J-School 
The MulinBlog Online J-School offers various free online courses on digital journalism, including data visualizations, map making, using web metrics and Google Analytics, multimedia storytelling, writing for the web, and social media marketing. 


Data Journalism 
This free online course, created by Google News Lab, teaches fundamentals in finding, analyzing, and visualizing data using Google software programs like Google Trends, Google Public Data Explorer, Google Consumer Surveys, Google Fusion Tables, and Google Crisis Map. 


Google Search for Journalists 
This 40-minute Google News Lab-sponsored course trains users on how to more effectively use Google Search to uncover big data and trends. Users also learn how to use Google Public Data and Google Now, as well as how to perform advanced image searches. 


Learno 
Learno offers numerous online courses to train journalists in data visualizations, data-driven reporting, and digital storytelling. Course topics include cleaning data, verifying and shoring up data, creating maps and charts, and managing data journalism projects. 


Journalism in the Age of Data 
This video tutorial, produced by a Knight Journalism Fellow, provides an overview of data journalism basics and guidance on producing visualizations and infographics, visual storytelling, exploring data, and data reporting tools. 


School of Data 
School of Data produced a series of independent online learning modules with tutorials and resources on data-driven journalism. Modules include courses on data journalism essentials such as data cleaning, exploring data, data extraction, and data presentation, as well as modules for working with big data on topics like budgets and international aid.  


ProPublica Summer Data Institute 
ProPublica offers a free two-week training session on data journalism and investigative reporting in New York City each summer for selected applicants. The trainings are taught by members of ProPublica’s award-winning News Applications team and cover data research, data cleaning and analysis, bulletproofing data, design principles, creating visualizations, and programming basics. 


Tableau Public 
Tableau created free tutorial videos on transforming data using Tableau Public. The tutorials include creating data visualizations, cleaning data, joining and splitting data sets, and connecting to data sets in different source files.  


Which tool should I use? (Investigative Reporters and Editors) 
The Investigative Reporters and Editors association compiled a list of IRE-produced data visualization, analysis, and scraping tools, along with tutorial videos explaining when and how to best utilize each program.
