The 2012 College DJ Battle
The artistic creativity of DJs has often been under-appreciated within the academy. Few academic institutions have recognized and endeavored to preserve the cultural art produced by DJs. The Houston Enriches Rice Education (HERE) Project will foster appreciation and preservation of this musical art form through hosting the 2012 College DJ Battle on March 28, 2012 from 8 pm – 11 pm. The battle will be held in honor of a renowned Houston DJ, the late DJ Screw. College students throughout the state of Texas will compete for the "DJ Screw Legend Award".
The recording for this event will be included as part of the ongoing HERE Project Archival Collection housed at Rice University. Through its archival collection, HERE aims to collect, preserve and pay tribute to the cultural knowledge produced and consumed in and around Houston.
